UACS professors participate in Summer School in Padua, Italy

Assoc. Prof. Marko Andonov, PhD, Dean at the UACS School of Law and Prof. Veno Pachovski, PhD, Vice-Dean at the UACS School of Computer Science and Information Technology, participated in the INNOVATION and TECHNOLOGY LAW SUMMER SCHOOL in Padua, Italy, under the mentorship of Prof. Claudia Sandei, PhD.

The Summer School was organized by the School of Law at the University of Padua (UNIPD).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andonov held a lecture on the topic of “The legal Treatment (status) of Digital Material – The case of the Republic of Macedonia with the illegally wiretapped conversations”, and opened a discussion with the participants on the topic of digital evidence before, during and after the completion of the judicial process, as well as possibilities for their misuse in all three phases.

Prof. Dr. Pachovski held two lectures on the following topics:

  1. “What is BlockChain? Just another obscure (accounting?) concept or technology of the future”, in which he presented the development and functionality of the blockchain concept, which has had an increase in applicability in all levels of life and business processes (exceeding the initial,standard connection to cryptocurrencies)
  2. “Information System aspects – IT meets Law”, in which he addressed the contemporary challenges of leading a law practice, as well as the opportunities of IT helping in managing those processes more efficiently.

Padova – June 18-23, 2018

DESCRIPTION The Innovation and Technology Law Summer School addresses emerging issues in the field of technology law, namely exploring the interface between computer science and law and the significant role that law plays in promoting innovation. The Summer School provides participants the opportunity to attend one of the Europe’s oldest universities, exchange ideas related to law, technology and innovation in an international environment, and experience cultural outings in a small group setting in Padova and nearby Venice.

TARGET GROUP Professors, graduate students, research scientists, and professionals who are interested in the intersection of law and innovation. The program is subsidized, with registration limited to 30 applicants.

ACADEMIC BOARD & SPEAKER The Innovation and Technology Law Summer School is promoted and directed by Prof. Claudia Sandei (Univ. of Padova) in cooperation with Prof. Seve Falati from Albany Law School in New York, with distinguished Law School Faculty from the United Kingdom, Macedonia and Italy also participating.

The discussion at the summer school, during the lectures as well as the networking with law professors from Italy, USA and the UK, led to the conclusion that one of the main conditions for career advancement for a lawyer is being savvy with technology, business and IT.

Among other discussions, the doors were opened to possible cooperation among the law schools of the two universities.
