Breaking the Stigma Together!

On December 10, at University American College Skopje (UACS), an insightful discussion and workshop on stigma were hosted. The event brought together 4th-year psychology students following the course of Clinical Psychology led by Associate Prof. Dimitrinka Jordanova Peshevska and students from University St. Clement Ohridski Bitola led by Prof. Dragana Batic. It is part of the larger forum on the Open Days of Psychology.

The event started with introductory speeches by the professors, setting the stage for an open and heartfelt discussion about stigma. Students bravely shared personal experiences of stigma, touching on powerful topics like:

  • Why do people hesitate to go to psychotherapy?
  • The misconception is that psychotherapists can’t be vulnerable or face challenges.
  • How stigma impacts perceptions of therapists’ work quality.

The second part of the workshop was dedicated to the workshop and students collaborating in groups to create anti-stigma promotional posters, focusing on stress, anxiety, and depression. Their creativity and passion for breaking down barriers were truly inspiring!

Thank you to everyone involved for fostering such a meaningful conversation and taking steps toward a more compassionate, stigma-free society.
