Smoking as a Public Health Challenge: How Can We Protect Current and Future Generations from Its Harmful Effects?

On December 10th, 2024 at University American College Skopje (UACS), a workshop on “How Can We Protect Current and Future Generations from Its Harmful Effects?” was hosted. The event brought together 4th year psychology students following the course of Clinical Psychology led by Associate Prof. Dimitrinka Jordanova Peshevska and 1st students from the School of Business and Management following the course Introduction to Management led by Prof. Snezana Hristova.

The event is organized in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office, Skopje, as part of the larger forum on “Smoking as a public health challenge.”

The workshop started with introductory speeches by the professors and WHO experts, setting the stage for an open and interactive discussion about tobacco prevention. Students shared personal experiences and public health challenges in tobacco prevention, focusing on several important aspects like the prevalence rates of tobacco use in the Republic of Macedonia among the adult population and among young adults, the risk factors for tobacco use, the protective factors for tobacco prevention, the available preventive interventions and cessation services in our country?
