Assistant professorThe course is an introductory course to computer network concepts and architectures. The course topics include: an overview of the current computer networks technologies, network software and network hardware, network models, data transmission, LAN and WAN technologies. An emphasis is given to packet switching, routing, addressing and the design of the TCP/IP communication protocols.
The course begins with an introduction to network standards, protocols, OSI and TCP/IP models. It proceeds with physical layer and transmission media, data link control layer, LAN technologies and LAN typologies. An emphasis is given to the network layer, especially the internet layer in the TCP/IP suite. Finally, the transport and application layers are covered.
