Modern English Grammar 2: Phonetics

In this course the phonetics of the English language is studied: the importance of pronunciation in learning English, kinds of pronunciation, types of spoken English in the UK and the USA, physiology of speech organs, kinds of phonetics, general characteristics of English sounds, the phoneme, types of phonetic transcription, classification of English speech sounds, vowels, diphthongs, consonants, changes of phonemes in connected speech, stress, rhythm, intonation. The purpose of this course is to get the students acquainted with the sound system of the English language so as to be able to differentiate the sounds and thus improve their pronunciation. After finishing the course they should have cleared the problems with the troublesome sounds for the Macedonian learner and be able to pass that knowledge to other persons.
